An asteroseismic study of the β Cephei star θ Ophiuchi: constraints on global stellar parameters and core overshooting

چکیده
We present a seismic study of the β Cephei star θ Ophiuchi. Our analysis is based on the observation of one radial mode, one rotationally split ` = 1 triplet and three components of a rotationally split ` = 2 quintuplet for which the m-values were well identified by spectroscopy. We identify the radial mode as fundamental, the triplet as p1 and the quintuplet as g1. Our NLTE abundance analysis results in a metallicity and CNO abundances in full agreement with the most recent updated solar values. With X ∈ [0.71, 0.7211] and Z ∈ [0.009, 0.015], and using the Asplund et al. (2005) mixture but with a Ne abundance about 0.3 dex larger (Cunha et al. 2006), the matching of the three independent modes, enables us to deduce constrained ranges for the mass (M = 8.2±0.3 M ) and central hydrogen abundance (Xc = 0.38±0.02) of θ Oph and to prove the occurrence of core overshooting (αov = 0.44±0.07). We also derive an equatorial rotation velocity of 29±7 km s−1. Moreover, we show that the observed non-equidistance of the ` = 1 triplet can be reproduced by second order effects of rotation. Finally, we show that the observed rotational splitting of two modes cannot rule out a rigid rotation model.

An asteroseismic study of the β Cephei star β Canis Majoris
We present a spectroscopic study of the β Cephei star β Canis Majoris. Hundreds of highresolution spectra were gathered during 4.5 years and the Si III line profiles centered on 4560 Å were subjected to a detailed line profile analysis. We searched for oscillation frequencies in different line diagnostics, compared them with those known from photometric studies and concluded the presence of thr...
متن کاملMultiperiodicity in the Large-amplitude Rapidly-rotating Β Cephei Star Hd 203664
We perform a seismic study of the young massive β Cephei star HD 203664 with the goal to constrain its interior structure. Our study is based on a time series of 328 new Geneva 7-colour photometric data of the star spread over 496.8 days. The data confirm the frequency of the dominant mode of the star which we refine to f1 = 6.02885 c d. The mode has a large amplitude of 37 mmag in V and is una...
متن کاملNew seismic analysis of the exoplanet - host star μ Arae
New seismic analysis of the exoplanet-host star µ Arae. ABSTRACT Aims. We present detailed modelling of the exoplanet-host star µ Arae, using a new method for the asteroseismic analysis, and taking into account the new value recently derived for the Hipparcos parallax. The aim is to obtain precise parameters for this star and its internal structure, including constraints on the core overshootin...
متن کاملChemical abundances of β Cephei stars from low - and high - resolution UV spectra
We determined stellar parameters (Teff , [m/H], θ) and E(B− V ) for all β Cephei stars observed during the IUE satellite mission. All parameters were derived by using an algorithmic procedure of fitting theoretical flux distribution (Kurucz 1996) to the IUE observations.

Findings of a few recent asteroseismic studies of the main-sequence pulsating stars, as performed in Wojciech Dziembowski’s group in Warsaw and in Michel Breger’s group in Vienna, are briefly presented and discussed. The selected objects are three hybrid pulsators ν Eridani, 12 Lacertae and γ Pegasi, which show both β Cephei and SPB type modes, and the δ Scuti type star 44Tauri. Session: STARS ...
